D. Michailidou: Government aim is active policies against poverty

The Deputy Labour Minister noted that «We are also foreseeing a 300 million euros increase to the overall benefit fund to cover the minimum guaranteed income that concerns 270,000 households, the housing benefit that concerns 260.000 families, the birth benefit and the child allowance as well as the allowance for people with disabilities».

Deputy Labour Minister responsible for issue of welfare and social solidarity Domna Michailidou in an interview on Saturday to Athens-Macedonian News Agency said that the government's aim is to perform active policies against poverty and not only benefits and passive acceptance of the facts.

She said that with "weapons" the subsidy of 100,000 new job positions and the increase of the funds for the benefits by 300 million euros are the Labour Ministry plans to address the repercussions of the pandemic.

"Our first priority against the repercussions of the pandemic is the creation of job positions. Already the Greek Manpower Employment Organization (OAED) has announced a colossal programme for the creation of 100,000 subsidised job position with 100 pct coverage of the insurance contributions and incentives for the long-term unemployed. We are also foreseeing a 300 million euros increase to the overall benefit fund to cover the minimum guaranteed income that concerns 270,000 households, the housing benefit that concerns 260.000 families, the birth benefit and the child allowance as well as the allowance for people with disabilities.
