Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the fall in unemployment in a post on Facebook.
Mitsotakis shared the positive news, stating, “According to Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) the unemployment rate in our country fell to 9.6% in June from 10.3% in May. This is the lowest level since the same month in 2009."
"Compared to June 2019, the unemployment rate has dropped by 8 percentage points, from 17.5% to 9.6%. Additionally, we have seen an increase of 400,000 in the number of employed individuals," Mitsotakis added.
"I would also like to highlight some specific figures that I consider significant. Women's unemployment has decreased by 2.2 percentage points compared to June 2023, while youth unemployment has dropped by 2 percentage points. These figures show that our targeted policies are yielding positive results. Of course, we are not complacent. We are aware of the challenges faced by our citizens. We know that we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Our goal is to align with Europe on all fronts: wages, unemployment and quality of life. We will continue to pursue this goal," Mitsotakis concluded.
