Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was briefed on Tuesday on the progress of work for the relief of flood-affected areas, in a teleconference with the Thessaly Operations Coordination Centre.
The government said that the inspections and recording of damage by state services is proceeding at a rapid pace, with more than 12,000 inspections so far, and that 16,000 finalised and 5,000 temporary applications for state assistance have been submitted to the online platform arogi.gov.gr.
The first payments of state aid were made the previous Friday, to help replace destroyed household effects and cover the basic needs of those affected, with 25.6 million euros paid to 4,470 individuals representing 4,377 households.
The prime minister was also briefed on efforts to collect and dispose of dead animal carcasses and other public health issues, as well as efforts to restore the water supply and repair roads.
Participants in the online meeting included Social Cohesion and Family Minister Sofia Zacharaki, Rural Development and Foods Minister Lefteris Avgenakis, Alternate Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios, Alternate Health Minister Irene Agapidaki, Deputy Education Minister Zetta Makri, Deputy Infrastructure Minister Nikos Tahiaos, Deputy Rural Development and Foods Minister Dionysis Stamenitis, Deputy Minister for Natural Disasters Christos Triantopoulos, Deputy Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Evangelos Tournas, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Yiannis Bratakos, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis and a number of general secretaries, local officials and senior military personnel.
