Greece is adapting its position on migration and refugee matters according to the new facts as they arise in Syria and in the framework of European Union decisions, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced after a meeting of the Government Council on National Security (KYSEA) on Friday, which was chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments in Syria and analysed all the parameters concerning Greece and the surrounding region.
According to the announcement by Marinakis "Greece supports the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and an inclusive future that will protect all religious minorities. The return to democratic normality must signal the end of refugee flows and open the way for the return of Syrian refugees to their homes."
He added that Greece was evaluating all the events and the dynamic developments in the region and "adapting its stance on migration and refugee issues according to the new circumstances that arise, in the framework of the decisions of European Union bodies."
"Greek authorities remain on alert on all levels," the announcement concluded.
