Energy Ministry: Electricity pricing for households at under 15 cents/kWh

Therefore, the end billing price for most consumers - depending on the tariffs of each provider - will be under 15 cents/KW, the ministry added. This pricing will include main or secondary homes, without income criteria, and regardless of the provider chosen.

The emergency support for household electricity consumption in August will be 1.6 cents per KW (or 16 euros per MWh), the Environment & Energy Ministry announced on Thursday.

Therefore, the end billing price for most consumers - depending on the tariffs of each provider - will be under 15 cents/KW, the ministry added. This pricing will include main or secondary homes, without income criteria, and regardless of the provider chosen.

Specifically, the emergency subsidy will be as follows:

  • For monthly consumption of up to 500 kWh, subsidy is 16 euros/MWh or 1.6 cents/kWh. This category includes 90% of all households in Greece. Support relates to consumers who are under the schedule of fluctuating electricity prices.
  • For households under the Social Household Tariff, support amounts to 50 euros/MWh or 5 cents/kWh for the entirety of consumption, while the final price following the subsidy will range at a pre-energy-crisis level.

As the ministry said in its statement, "The above-mentioned measures are included in those the Environment and Energy Ministry is taking to avert the excessive burdening of household electricity consumers by the rise in power prices, due to the recent dysfunction in the electricity energy market in Southern Europe that was observed this past July."

Environment and Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis said the price of support was formulated "based on the provider prices that have become known (and cover over 80% of the market)."

Deputy Minister Alexandra Sdoukou noted the speed with which the government responded to high pricing, "as it also did in previous years of the energy crisis" and is supporting "some 700,000 beneficiaries of the Social Household Tariff, lowering the final price to 11.3 cents/kWh for the majority of these specific consumers."
