The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Monday released its 2022 Survey on Income & Living Conditions, about which both Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and Labor Minister Kostis Hatzidakis issued statements.
ELSTAT's risk of poverty report says that the population at risk of poverty or social exclusion decreased by 2.0 percentage points compared to 2021, while the projected risk of poverty fell further by around 3 percentage points and is at its lowest level since 2010.
Hatzidakis and Staikouras noted that "this means that a large number of our fellow citizens who rank below the poverty line are now converging towards the line, and have an increased probability of crossing it in the very near future."
Meanwhile, they noted, the economic inequality indexes S80/S20 and Gini, with the reference year being 2021, have decreased significantly compared to the previous year (reference year 2020), it was added.
During the reference year 2020, the ministers added, the decrease in the average equivalent individual disposable income was only 0.9%, while its increase, during the reference year 2021, was of the order of 8.8%.
