The need for the EU member-states to coordinate and better prepare in the case of an escalation of the crisis in Ukraine was underlined at a teleconference of European leaders on Monday, with the participation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which was chaired by European Council President Charles Michel.
The meeting discussed developments in Ukraine, while it was noted that European unity must be preserved that it's necessary to exhaust all diplomatic means and channels of communication to prevent an escalation.
The leaders reiterated that any hostile action by the Russian side would have serious repercussions with a high cost and they agreed to remain in contact.
Meeting at the Maximos Mansion on the developments in Ukraine
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday chaired a meeting at the Maximos Mansion focusing on the developments in Ukraine, during which there was a discussion of all possible scenarios for ensuring the security of Greece's natural gas supplies.
The meeting was attended by Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas, State Ministers Giorgos Gerapetritis and Akis Skertsos, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and government spokesperson Yiannis Economou, alternate government spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni, the head of the prime minister's economic office Alexis Patelis, National Security Advisor Thanos Dokos, the president and CEO of PPC Giorgos Stassis, Public Gas Corporation of Greece CEO Konstantinos Xifaras, the president of Regulatory Authority for Energy Thanos Dagoumas and professor of Energy Economics and Operational Research at the National Technical University of Athens, Pantelis Kapros.
