"I want to thank you, not only on an institutional but also on a personal level, for our flawless cooperation over the past five years. History records that you were the first female President of the Hellenic Republic and that you gave the institution your own distinctive characteristics in social issues, culture and the arts," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed at the start of his final meeting with President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday, in view of the process underway for the election of a new President.
The prime minister recalled that during the upcoming constitutional revision, the ruling party will propose that the President of the Republic be elected for only a single six-year term, adding that national unity must be forged on terms of realism and truth.
On her part, Sakellaropoulou thanked the prime minister and the Parliament for the honour and trust they bestowed upon her, pointed out that institutional communication between state institutions is important for democracy, while she underlined that at the international level there are many challenges and dangers, adding that this demands a readiness for broader consensus.
